SFINCS Semi-Finalist: Tuesday

The first round of the Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Championship (SFINCS) is drawing to a close, and itโ€™s time to present our semi-finalists. Over the last few months, our team has read and considered nineteen different books, and weโ€™ve whittled them down to five that we want to forward to round two.

In this case, โ€œweโ€ refers to Team TBR, and you can find out more about us and the books we read in the first round here.

Starting Monday (yesterday), weโ€™ll share one of our semi-finalists each day, in no particular order, until all five have been revealed. Reviews are not required in this round, but each book needs to be read by at least two team members. Our semi finalists were all read by at least three team members.

Yesterdayโ€™s semi-finalist was:

  • The Drowned Heir, by Jennifer R. Donohue

Now, without further ado, here we go!

Semi-Finalist: Tuesday

Reap, Sow, by S.H. Cooper

From our reviews:

Lilly

S.H. Cooper does an absolutely fantastic job and weaving together an evocative description. I also think Luciโ€™s narration is top notch, readers can very easily connect with her mental state throughout the story and experience her anguish alongside her.

The prose is beautiful. Thereโ€™s a poetic tint to how the story is told, and it adds an otherworldly feel to the reading experience that perfectly complements Luckyโ€™s Tale.

Book Description

The halls are familiar. Lucianne โ€œLuckyโ€ Boyle knows that much. But how she came to be in this strange place that tries to make itself look like home is a mystery. Filled with doors that have no handles, rooms that shift to almost familiar, and faceless people in blue, Lucky is determined to find a way out to get back to her family and the man she loves. Until her family starts to show up, one by one, to lead her down a dark and twisted path that ends in a terrible truth.
