Today we’re excited to host a cover reveal for A Dragon for Darius, Part One, by Sherrie A Bakelar, the first in A Dragon for Darius, A Story in Four Parts, which is launching a Backerkit campaign to produce a limited edition cover for the series in celebration of the author’s tenth published novel.

This is the story of Darius, born during the collapse of civilization, into the darkness of the Evernight. It’s the story of Yùlóng, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, her immortal protector. It is a story told in four parts, four books that is.

Darius just wanted to live her life, a simple routine that kept her safe and fed on the streets of Chicago. When a murder interrupted that routine, a group of rebels hijacked her life and sent her on a quest to save the planet and overthrow the secretive religious cult that ruled the world.

A Dragon for Darius, Part One is releasing July 2027 and is part of The Book Bazaar 2026 Backerkit campaign this October! Don’t be fooled by the whimsical cover: this story is weighty and dark, so please check the content warnings as part of the campaign.

About the Author

One of those feral Gen Xers, Sherrie A Bakelar was raised in the 1980s. She spent hours hiking in the nearby mountains, catching tadpoles in the canal, and stealing peaches from local farms. From a young age, she loved stories. She loved to listen to them and loved to tell them. She would tell them to anyone who would listen, and when no one was around to listen, she would tell them to herself. As she grew, she learned to read and once she was fluent, she fell in love with books. Today, she continues to listen to stories in all their amazing forms: books, television, movies, songs, and poems. She also continues to tell them, sometimes writing them down for others to read. Sherrie lives with her family and friends near where she grew up. Although the peach farms and canal are gone, the mountains remain.
