If I had to sum this book up in one word, it would be โintenseโ. Likeโฆ whoa.
When Piper and two daemons are framed when the Sahar Stone, a powerful artifact, goes missing, they must run from the law while they hunt down the actual thieves.
I rarely read UF. I find the main characters annoying or flat most of the time. But Piper felt differentโshe had clear motives from page one, and I couldnโt help but root for her.
And Lyre and Ashโฆ whew. Marie has a way of making a story steamy without actually doing much. That takes skill. But they arenโt just sexy daemons. Theyโre mysterious and fascinating too. I want to know everything about both of them. Especially Ash.
This story did such a good job of raising questions, driving me onward because I HAD TO KNOW. I cared. A lot. About Piper, about Ash, about Lyre, about ALL THOSE FREAKING QUESTIONS. It was kinda exhausting. But so so good.
Once it starts(on page one, really), the adrenaline doesnโt stop until the end. What a ride. So, donโt start this book at bedtime. You might lose sleep.

Guest Reviewer:
Constance Lopez knows magic is real. Dragons, faeriesโฆ and donโt even get her started on unicorns. She grew up having epic duels in the woods with her siblings, and nature is still one of her favorite places to be. If she isnโt out there working on her stories, sheโs dragging her children and husband on adventures (they always enjoy it once theyโre outside). Except in summer. For those months she hides inside, because Texas heat is real and it hates her.
Books have always been her haven and inspiration, and now she writes her own noblebright stories, hoping to pass those feelings along to others. Fantasy, of course. Because everything is better with magic.
