Welcome to Read Indie Fantasy.com!

Welcome to Read Indie Fantasy.com, a website dedicated to indie and self-published speculative fiction – fantasy, sci-fi, and horror.

Our website existed before under the name Uncharted Library, and you may see that name dotted around on the older reviews and articles that we decided to keep. We started our blog back in 2021 and briefly merged with the lovely Indie Accords community before deciding to relaunch with a new name and new look!

Here are a few facts about us:

  • We’ve reviewed over 100 indie books featuring a wide variety of authors
  • We’ve taken part in BBNYA (Book Blogger’s Novel of the Year) as panelists
  • We’ve also taken part in SFINCS (Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Championship) as judges
  • We originally featured indie games on our blog but decided to stick with books only
  • Most of the art we used to make our banners is designed by the artist grand failure
  • Our official mascot is called Becky
  • The very first book reviewed by Nils was Dragon’s Reach by J. A. Andrews
  • The very first book reviewed by Trudie was RADIO by J. Rushing
  • Only one book has been reviewed by us both: Legacy of the Brightwash by Krystle Matar
  • We once celebrated Self-Published Fantasy Month by hosting a book and author spotlight every day for the entire month of September!

Who Are We?

We are Nils and Trudie – two indie authors who are passionate readers of indie and self-published books. We started this website together to share that passion and provide a curated collection of our favourite indie books – what we consider to be the best – in order to help new readers find quality indie books. We both believe in the creative innovation of indie and self-published authors. The indie book marketing has grown massively over the years. There are so many talented authors out there writing books you may not be able to find at your local bookstore – but we want to help you find it!

Here’s a little more about ourselves:

Nils ร–dlund is originally Swedish, spent a majority of his adult (wellโ€ฆ) life in Cork, Ireland, and currently resides in Haarlem, Netherlands. Heโ€™s an avid reader, gamer, and fan of geek-culture.

ร–dlund picked up writing as a hobby, almost by accident, back in 2010, and it quickly grew into something of an obsession. In 2017 he decided to get serious about it, and in early 2018, he published his debut novella Emmaโ€™s Story. He then spent several years writing and publishing the 10-book series Lost Dogs.

Unlike every other author in the history of all authors ever (citation needed), ร–dlund does not have a cat.

Trudie is the non-binary author of The Cruel Gods, a self-published gaslamp fantasy trilogy that was a finalist in the eighth Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off competition. They were also previously published via a small press. They love all things indie, including indie video games, though their favourite books tend to be less traditional fantasy and more weird and wonderful – and the more queer, the better!

Some of their favourite indie authors include A. K. Faulkner, Al Hess, Douglas Lumsden, J. Rushing, Krystle Matar, M. L. Wang, Sarah Chorn, amongst many others!

Unlike Nils, Trudie DOES have a cat, and he’s a menace.
