Welcome to Day One of our Indie Fantasy Advent Calendar! We’re featuring an underrated indie author every day this holiday season to spread a little festive joy and promote authors we think deserve more love. Read our introduction to find out more.
Let’s open day twenty-three and see what book lies behind…
Today, on December 23rd, we’re opening our calendar to Curse of Souls by Niranjan.
Philip and his partner Casey have been spearheading the secessionist movement in the country of Gedrion which had escalated into a war with Darren, the tyrant who had been exploiting their people. In a desperate attempt for peace after years of conflict, they approach Raylan, Darrenโs second-in-command, for an end to the hostilities and to overthrow Darren.
Raylan is as tired of the conflict as his enemies, and he knows that Darren is not one to listen to reason. Therefore, he has to keep it a secret from everyone on his side that heโs meeting with Philip and Casey if heโs to give peace a chance.
The last thing any of them expect is for a soul mate bond to spring to life between Philip and Raylan, activating an ancient magic that will kill them both if the bond isnโt consummated. With the fate of two nations on the balance, and Philip and Caseyโs relationship struggling for air, all three men find that they have to make choices none of them are prepared for if they want an end to the war and bring about peace while keeping Philip and Raylan alive.
Curse of Souls is a fantasy romance novella and finalist in this year’s BBNYA! I’ve not personally had chance to read this one yet, but I wanted to bring the spotlight on the author, Niranjan, also known as other pen names and Zombie Garth across the writing community. This author has a wide variety of books across various speculative subgenres, including fantasy, sci-fi, romance and more! Take a look at their website for the full catalogue of books. I’m sure you’ll find something that takes your fancy!
I also wanted to bring the spotlight on this author as they are known for being a supportive voice across various indie author communities. They put a lot of effort into reviewing and shouting about other indie authors, as well as giving advice in indie promotions and setting up and sharing promotions for other authors to take advantage of. Because of all this, Niranjan deserves your time, so please check out their books!
Let’s start with Curse of Souls:
About the Author
They write fantasy and Sci fi books under the pen name of Niranjan, fantasy books based on Hindu Mythology under the name of Geetha Krishnan and poetry as well as books in other genres under the pen name of Rari Rajesh.
An author and editor, Niranjanโs biggest ambition is to have a character named Garth in every book they write. Niranjan writes books rooted in mythical worlds, and their stories are often a combination of magic and futuristic technology.
When they are not writing or editing, Niranjan can be found cooking or just lying on their couch watching or rewatching C Dramas and writing fanfiction.
Geetha Krishnan writes books derived from the rich and vast spectrum of Indian mythology. A practising Hindu, their books show their deep knowledge of the religion and customs of ancient India. Their books have won many accolades and have been universally praised for the twists they bring to their retellings.
Their books Ayana and Pradyutita have made it to the semi finals of SPFBO 2019 and 2020 respectively, and their short story, The Forgotten Son has won an Honourable Mention in The Writers of the Future Contest.
Rari Rajesh writes mysteries and thrillers with the odd mix of literary fiction thrown in. They enjoy reading and reviewing books, but spends more time on Netflix than in being productive. The themes of their poetry are universal and relatable, while the characters in their books are memorable, reflecting their own desire for a world where people are not judged for what they are.
