Welcome to A Month of Rain and Reads, a celebration of self-published and indie SFF throughout the entire month of November. To find out how you can take part and view the whole list of content, visit our introduction post.
For our first interview, we have some questions for one of the cornerstones of our community, book blogger and reviewer Jamedi.
Please, tell us a little about yourself.
Hey people! I’m Jamedi, a bookblogger and reviewer from Spain; my main outlet is the blog Jamreads (yes, I’m super original, sigh). At this point, I think I practically read almost any genre, but I’m still mostly focusing on Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror, the more it blends the genres, the better.
Outside of reading, I really enjoy doing mountain bike and passing time with my cat, Blanca.
You read a lot of books. How do you organise your reading? Do you give in to mood reads, or do arcs/new releases take priority?
If I’m honest, I’m a bit of a chaotic person; while I kinda try to adjust for book tours and so, most of my organization is basically mood reading, with a bit of focus on arcs/new releases, especially if I’m preparing an interview, as I think it’s more interesting when the questions are catered towards the author.
Your reading buddy is Blanca, a gorgeous queen of a cat. Please share a picture and fun story about her.

Well, Blanca originally was my grandfather’s cat; when he started to have some health problems, I started to take care of her. She’s really independent, and to be fair, she’s really keen to explore places, so there was a moment we had to pick her from another patio, because she climbed in and wasn’t able to return. Also, she’s incredibly curious, so you can be sure that if you go outside with a beverage, she will try to taste it, independently of how it looks.
Who’s a character in a book that you identify with, that you relate to, or that you’d like to represent you?
n/a, I feel I’m the most generic of NPCs
What kind of books do you like the most? Genres, tropes, characters?
I find that I tend to gravitate towards books that are not afraid to blur the line between genres; in the end, I think all fantasy/sf/horror is just a big genre, so it makes sense to play with elements from all of them. Also, the weirder, the better; experimental structures are also a big draw for me.
I’m also drawn towards complex and well-fleshed characters, and extra points if they belong to a minority/less portrayed group.
Our theme for November is A Month of Rain & Reads. Do you subscribe to the idea of curling up with a good book while the rain pours down outside? What book would you read? Would you bring tea and a blanket? What would make the moment perfect?
I mean, it’s totally perfect, but without the blanket, I already have a cat that does that, hahahaha. Honestly, I default to horror in those cases, and coffee.

How and why did you come to take an interest in indie books?
Mostly through social media, especially Discord; it’s easier to pick books from authors you personally speak to, so eventually it leads towards reading some self-published and indie books. In some cases, also word of mouth was a powerful thing, because having a friend telling you to read something is a powerful motivator.
What advantages and disadvantages do you see with indie books?
I would say they are less afraid to touch certain themes, and it moves faster than traditional publishing in terms of genres; however, it is true that the lack of a filter to publish might lead to some books that are not as good, or that rushing towards publication might allow some things to go overlooked.
How do you find new books to read and get excited about? How do you decide what to read next?
A mix between word of mouth, social media and who reaches me (don’t be shy, most of bloggers don’t bite). For deciding what to read? Chaos, let chaos reign)
What are you working on next? Can you tease us?
My totally sane and not ambitious 2026 TBR/Books I hope to read. I promise the number of books included is doable, nothing that will be crazy.
And a few quick questions. What’s your favourite…

…book, in recent times?
The House on the Utopia Way, by Stefan Mohamed
…game, in recent times?
Probably still Balatro enjoyer; but we will say Ball X Pit, and now Slots n Daggers (you can see a pattern).
…way to clear your mind when everything gets a bit much?
Bike, the more time, the better. It’s also incredibly helpful to filter some thoughts.
Do you have any last words? Any shoutouts to people who have supported you or books that have inspired you?
Thanks to the people that have to suffer my bullshit everyday; it’s easier when you have a supportive group of friends (all of you know who you are).
